Solstice (2024)
handmade jute paper, mild steel, rust, handmade white ash wood beads, found brass bowl
10x20x12.5ft
In considering the alienation of post-industrial city life from natural materials and rhythms, this piece explores the impact of sunlight. Metal rods extending from the walls are covered in paper pulp made from white jute, a plant also used for medicinal purposes, and capture the light streaming through the window. The hanging wood beads reference daily rhythms, and the use of Buddhist prayer beads.
